Here’s what you all need to know about ‘Apna Meter, Apni Reading’
The Ministry of Power Division has launched the Power Smart App under its “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” initiative.
The app was officially launched on Sunday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a spokesperson for the Power Division confirmed.
“Effective steps are also taken against the corrupt mafia. While a task force and the relevant minister have worked really hard for a reduction in power prices,” he said.
The prime minister mentioned that the government passed on the benefits of the reduction of oil prices in the international market to the power sector.
Through the Power Smart App, electricity consumers can now take a photo of their electricity meter on a designated date and submit it directly via the app.
The monthly electricity bill will then be calculated based on the uploaded image, offering a digital solution to common issues like meter reading delays, inaccurate billing, and human errors.
Officials say the newly launched Power Smart App will be particularly beneficial for electricity consumers who qualify for government subsidies.
It allow users to submit timely meter readings, the app ensures that eligible households continue to receive subsidised rates without interruption.
According to officials, users consuming up to 200 units of electricity typically receive a subsidised bill of around Rs 2,330.
However, even a slight increase in usage can push them over the threshold, disqualifying them from the subsidy and raising their bill to over Rs 8,000.
The app helps protect such users by ensuring accurate, on-time readings that reflect their actual consumption.
A key feature of the system is that consumer-submitted readings if uploaded on the designated date will take precedence over any subsequent meter readings taken by field staff.
