Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi calls US strike ‘shameful’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the recent US air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the act a “shameful attack” and a clear violation of international law.
In his initial response posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Abbas Araghchi asserted that Iran reserves the right to defend its sovereignty, national interests, and citizens.
“This attack is a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter,” Araghchi wrote. “Under its provisions, every nation has the legitimate right to defend itself. Iran will exercise all necessary rights to protect its sovereignty and people.”
The foreign minister warned that the US actions would not go unanswered and would have “lasting consequences,” both regionally and globally.
He called on the international community to take notice of what he described as an “extremely dangerous behaviour” by the United States.
“The members of the United Nations should be alarmed by this grave breach of international norms,” Araghchi added, hinting at Iran’s possible recourse through diplomatic and legal channels in addition to potential military retaliation.
