Karachi: Massive fire engulfs 4 factories in Landhi
A massive blaze that broke out in the Export Processing Zone in Karachi’s Landhi area early Saturday has been raging for over 12 hours, gutting at least four factories and leaving five people injured after a portion of a building collapsed.
According to details, the fire erupted suddenly in the morning, triggering panic across the area. Fire department officials have classified it as a third-degree fire due to its intensity and rapid spread.
Despite the closure of factories during Eid holidays, resulting in no loss of life, rescue authorities confirmed significant financial losses running into millions of rupees as goods and infrastructure were reduced to ashes.
At least 14 fire tenders, two snorkels, and a water bowser have been deployed from across the city in efforts to control the fire, which firefighters have been battling for several hours.
Rescue officials said that five people sustained injuries when a part of a factory building collapsed. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Sindh Chief Minister has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the deputy commissioner. He also directed rescue agencies to expedite relief efforts. Workers from the affected factories have been evacuated to safer locations.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, preliminary investigations are underway. Police and rescue teams remain at the site, striving to bring the situation under control.
