The Met Office predicted hot and dry weather for most regions today, with a severe heatwave expected to continue in Karachi, Sindh, and Balochistan due to a tropical storm developing in the Arabian Sea.

Dust storms, thunder, and rain are anticipated in parts of Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Yesterday, dust storms and heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Punjab, leading to 12 fatalities and numerous injuries from various incidents. The recent rains have also caused the Swat River to overflow, and heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, has resulted in uprooted trees and scattered signboards in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.

Many districts experienced power outages due to fallen poles, and severe dust storms darkened the afternoon sky.

Light rain is forecasted today in Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, and Peshawar, with potential rainfall in Punjab’s Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal. However, most districts in Punjab are expected to remain dry and hot.

The Met Office has cautioned that the tropical system in the Arabian Sea will stop sea breezes in Karachi, leading to an unusual rise in temperatures, which could reach 40 degrees Celsius, with coastal areas feeling like 45 degrees Celsius. Citizens are advised to limit outdoor activities, avoid traveling in the sun, and stay hydrated.
