Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Modi-led government following Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent admission that Pakistan was informed prior to Indian military strikes.

Gandhi termed the revelation a “serious national security issue” and demanded that the government clarify who had authorized such communication with Pakistan ahead of the operation.

He said that If Pakistan was indeed informed before the strikes, the nation deserves to know who made that decision. He further added that this policy compromises our national security, and the people of India have the right to question it.

His comments came in response to a statement made by Foreign Minister Jaishankar, who acknowledged that Pakistan had been alerted ahead of India’s retaliatory military action.

Calling the minister’s remarks “deeply concerning,” Gandhi said silence on the matter was not an option. He further demanded transparency regarding the damage suffered by the Indian Air Force during the operation.

“This admission by the foreign minister cannot be overlooked. The government must come clean,” he added.

The controversy has sparked a new political debate in India over the government’s handling of security protocols and the implications of pre-strike disclosures to the adversary. Opposition leaders have called for a parliamentary briefing and full disclosure of the operational decisions made during the recent escalation with Pakistan.
