Federal govt abolishes thousands of posts under rightsizing drive
In a major push to streamline governance and reduce financial burdens, the federal government has abolished over 32,000 posts across various ministries and departments under its rightsizing initiative.
According to official documents, a total of 32,070 positions from grade 1 to grade 22 have been eliminated, translating into an annual fiscal saving of over Rs30 billion.
The report also revealed that the Cabinet Division has identified an additional 7,826 “dying posts”—positions that will be phased out gradually. These are expected to save more than Rs6 billion annually.
Among the eliminated positions, 1,102 were in grades 17 to 22, while 30,968 posts were from grades 1 to 16. Specifically, 7,305 posts of grade 1, 2,853 of grade 2, 2,456 of grade 4, 2,887 of grade 5, 1,274 of grade 14, and 1,340 of grade 16 have been abolished so far.
