Lawyers’ protest in Khairpur against canals project enters fourth day
Public opposition to the decision to construct new canals in Sindh has escalated significantly. A lawyer’s protest near the Babarloi Bypass in Khairpur has entered its fourth day, effectively paralyzing inter-provincial trade across the country.
The ongoing protest has resulted in thousands of vehicles, including trucks, freight carriers, and livestock transport, becoming stranded on the National Highway.
Many drivers have turned back due to concerns about millions of rupees worth of goods spoiling.
Reports showed that looting incidents are occurring among the stranded vehicles, which are isolated from populated areas.
Additionally, fears of livestock fatalities have further complicated the situation.
Protests and demonstrations continue in several cities, including Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Ghotki, and Daharki.
In Daharki, protesters have stopped the supply of goods to other provinces.
Protesters have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the federal government, warning that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their actions once the deadline expires.
