Severe heatwave hits country NDMA issues alert until April 27
A severe heatwave has engulfed the country, prompting the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to issue a heat alert until April 27.
Most regions will experience extreme heat and dry weather in the coming days.
Karachi felt the brunt of the heat yesterday, with temperatures soaring to 41 degrees Celsius.
The lack of sea breezes made the heat even more intense, exceeding 44 degrees Celsius, which is 6 degrees Celsius higher than the average for April.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) anticipated the return of sea breezes by Thursday, but conditions are expected to remain unchanged until then.
In Lahore, temperatures climbed to 36 degrees Celsius, but residents reported that it felt as hot as 41 degrees Celsius.
Rawalpindi reported similar experiences, with 36 degrees Celsius feeling like 40 degrees Celsius.
Sindh’s various cities also faced severe conditions. In Tharparkar and Larkana, temperatures reached 41 degrees, with a perceived heat index of 43 degrees.
In Hyderabad and Sukkur, the temperature of 38 degrees Celsius felt like 43 and 41 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Balochistan’s Lasbela district, temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius, feeling even hotter at over 43 degrees Celsius.
While northern areas are expected to have partly cloudy weather, an increase in temperatures is still anticipated there.
The PMD and NDMA have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and take precautions against sun exposure.
