At least 18 patients at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital suffered severe reactions after being administered an injection used to treat lung infections, with two reported to be in critical condition.

The incident occurred in the hospital’s chest ward, prompting an immediate suspension of the injection’s use.

Mayo Hospital CEO Professor Haroon Hamid confirmed that an inquiry committee has been formed, and affected patients are receiving the best possible care.

The incident comes just days after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made a surprise visit to the hospital, where she received numerous complaints about poor facilities and mismanagement.

Expressing her displeasure, she ordered the immediate removal of the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS).

Following her visit, the Punjab government made major administrative changes at the hospital.

Professor Haroon Hamid was appointed as the new CEO, replacing Professor Ahsan Nauman, while Dr Ehteshamul Haq was transferred from the Punjab Institute of Cardiology to serve as Mayo Hospital’s new MS.
