Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has etched his name in history by becoming the first captain to lead his team in the final of every ICC event.

India secured their third ICC Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the 2025 final.

Rohit Sharma, known for delivering on big occasions, played a blistering knock of 76 runs, smashing three sixes and seven fours. His responsible innings earned him the Player of the Match award.

With this feat, Rohit Sharma has now led India in the finals of the World Test Championship, the 2023 Cricket World Cup, the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the 2025 Champions Trophy — an unprecedented achievement in cricket history.

‘Proud of how we played’

After guiding India to victory, Rohit Sharma expressed immense pride in his team’s performance throughout the tournament.

“We played exceptionally well, and I had the full support of my team and management,” he said.

“At this stage of my career, I wanted to play exactly like this. My mind was clear, I knew what to do, and I’m happy with my contribution to the team.”

Praising India’s depth, Sharma highlighted the team’s strong batting lineup extending to the eighth position. “Everyone stepped up, and it was a collective effort,” he added.
