Fresh clashes have erupted between Pakistani and Afghan forces at the Torkham border, with both sides exchanging heavy fire.

According to sources, a mortar shell landed in Torkham’s Bacha Mena area during the exchange, critically injuring customs clearance agent Ishaq Khan.

He was immediately shifted to DHQ Hospital in Landi Kotal for treatment.

The border remains closed for the 12th consecutive day, halting trade and the movement of civilians.

Although a ceasefire has been in place since yesterday, thousands of passengers and cargo trucks remain stranded on both sides.

Tensions at the border first escalated 11 days ago when Afghan forces attempted to construct a checkpoint in a disputed area.

Pakistani forces intervened, leading to intense cross-border firing that lasted two days.

Security officials report that heavy weapons were used during the skirmish, resulting in injuries to eight Pakistani security personnel and a local civilian. In retaliation, three Afghan soldiers were killed.

The ongoing closure has caused millions in losses to traders from both countries while adding to the hardships of civilians.
