Decision reserved on KE’s request to cut electricity rates by Rs4.95 per unit in Karachi
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has concluded the hearing on K-Electric’s request to reduce electricity tariffs in Karachi by Rs4.95 per unit under the December monthly fuel adjustment.
The authority has reserved its decision, which will be announced after reviewing the financial data.
During the hearing, K-Electric also sought an adjustment of Rs5 billion, citing outstanding costs related to partial load operations, open-cycle generation, and startup costs.
However, consumer representatives strongly opposed the request, demanding that the full benefit of the fuel adjustment be passed on to the public.

A consumer argued that despite tariff adjustments, commercial areas in Karachi continue to face load shedding, and the Industrial Support Package has not been implemented in the city.
In response, NEPRA officials stated that K-Electric has challenged the Industrial Support Package in court.
K-Electric representatives revealed that in December, the company generated electricity from its own sources at Rs18.60 per unit, while the cost of electricity purchased from CPPA stood at Rs9.60 per unit.
Following the hearing, NEPRA reserved its decision, stating that it would be announced along with an official notification after reviewing the financial data.
