Sindh government launches crackdown on unfit vehicles
The Sindh government has initiated a crackdown on unfit commercial vehicles across the province following directives from Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The transport department has instructed relevant authorities to take strict action, highlighting that many vehicles are using fitness certificates issued by motor vehicle inspectors from other provinces.
Now, all such vehicles must obtain fitness certification from Sindh authorities, as this is a serious issue, it added.
According to the transport department, these vehicles have not undergone physical inspection by Sindh’s motor vehicle inspectors (MVIs), nor have they been issued fitness certificates following the prescribed procedures.

Sharjeel Memon said that many commercial vehicles registered in other provinces are operating permanently in Sindh, relying on fitness certificates issued by authorities outside the province.
He expressed concerns that these certificates may have been issued without proper inspection, raising questions about their authenticity and standards. The presence of unfit vehicles on roads has contributed to an increase in accidents.
Sharjeel Memon further emphasised that mechanical failures put drivers and pedestrians at risk.
He announced that commercial vehicle fitness certificates will now be issued exclusively through Sindh’s MVIs and will include QR codes along with advanced security features.
The senior provincial minister also made it mandatory to present a QR-coded fitness certificate at the time of route permit issuance or renewal.
Additionally, all drivers must possess a valid driving licence. These measures aim to ensure proper inspection and verification of all commercial vehicles.
Sharjeel Memon warned that the unchecked movement of unfit vehicles poses a severe threat to human lives.
The government is implementing a transparent fitness certification system to bring all commercial vehicles under strict regulatory oversight.
