Afaq Ahmed arrested for alleged incendiary remarks
Police have arrested Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) Chairman Afaq Ahmed over alleged inflammatory statements.
According to details, Afaq Ahmed was taken into custody from his residence in Karachi. Police claim that his remarks incited violence, leading to the torching of cargo vehicles in the city.
A case has been registered under arson and rioting charges.
Sources report that Ahmed was arrested from Defence and will be transferred to Korangi police station.
In a recent press conference, Afaq Ahmed highlighted that 92 people had been crushed under trucks and dumpers in just 40 days.
He supported the ban on heavy traffic in Karachi and acknowledged public anger over accidents. However, he urged citizens to protest peacefully and refrain from setting vehicles on fire.
Earlier, he had issued a strong directive, stating: “I am ordering Muhajir youth as an elder brother — there should be no heavy traffic in the city from Tuesday.”
His arrest comes amid a wave of violent incidents where unidentified individuals set cargo vehicles ablaze following fatal traffic accidents. In one case near Abdullah Mor, three motorcycle riders stopped a water tanker, doused it in petrol, and set it on fire. The driver managed to escape unharmed.
Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho condemned the violence, saying, “We will not allow anyone to damage public or private property. Over 10 suspects have been arrested, and cases will be filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.”
