If you are facing a communication issue with your partner, or finding it difficult to convey your emotions, then try emojis, as men can understand better through them than facial expressions, the study revealed.

The study was conducted by psychologists at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Milan, Italy.

It revealed that men are more inclined towards expressing emotions through emojis unlike women, who tend to prefer facial expressions.

Also, some previous studies have found men can more easily express their emotions through smartphone messages than in person. More importantly, they most often prefer to share emotions through digital communications are negative such as anger, lust or fear.

The study described it as compensation for the lack of non-verbal clues such as facial expressions, body language, or vocal tone.

As many as 96 male and female students participated in the study. They were asked to look at the photographs for more than two seconds. The pictures contain different facial expressions of both men and women ranging from happy or surprised to angry and disgusted.

They were told to jot down what each image they thought is about.

The result, in the Journal of behavioral sciences, showed that men are better at judging emoticons than facial expressions. Journal also pointed to specific feelings and mostly among them were negative feelings that men are better at such as anger, sadness, and disgust.

However, women found it easier to understand emotions by looking at their face.

Researchers think that men find digital imagery much more realistic than the real thing. Therefore, they can interpret it correctly.

In cyberspace, according to researchers men are inclined to express their feelings and emotions through messages. But women react empathetically as they do not like viewing images of human beings.
