PM calls emergency cabinet meeting to review security situation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday convened an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet to review the country’s overall security situation, with major decisions likely to be taken, official sources said.
According to the sources, cabinet members have been directed to remain available for the session, though a formal agenda has not yet been shared with them.
The cabinet is expected to take significant measures related to the country’s security, while it will also hold discussions on other key matters.
The meeting has been called amid a surge in militant activity linked to terrorist groups based in Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, a suicide blast in Islamabad claimed 12 lives and left 36 others injured.
Tensions have also flared along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in recent weeks.
