Govt to introduce further changes to 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill
The government has decided to introduce additional changes to the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, sources said on Wednesday.
According to the sources, the new amendments will be tabled in the National Assembly.
Following their approval, the bill will once again be referred to the Senate for consideration.
An emergency meeting of the federal cabinet will be held today (Wednesday), while the Senate session has been convened for 5pm this evening, sources added.
Meanwhile, the opposition has also decided to submit 11 amendments to the bill, which reportedly oppose changes to the structure of the superior judiciary.
The sources said the opposition has also proposed amendments concerning the issue of immunity to the president.
Nawaz Sharif to attend NA session
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to leave for Islamabad this afternoon, the sources said.
During his stay in the federal capital, the PML-N supremo will attend the National Assembly session and visit the residence of late Senator Irfan Siddiqui to offer condolences on his passing.
