Report finds driver responsible for Lodhran train accident that killed one

Awam Express collides with stationary engine; two passengers in critical condition

The preliminary joint certificate report of the train accident held the driver responsible for the incident.

The Karachi-bound Awam Express, which had departed from Peshawar, met with an accident near Lodhran. The initial inquiry revealed that the mishap occurred due to the train overshooting its designated stop.

It said that the train overshot, struck the sand hump, and derailed. It added that the driver failed to control the train and bring it to a timely halt.

One passenger was killed and 21 were injured after the Peshawar-Karachi Awam Express met with an accident near Lodhran Junction on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, the accident occurred at 2:10am when the train failed to stop at Makra station and rammed into the parked engine of a goods train.

The condition of the two injured passengers was reported to be critical. The injured and the deceased have been shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

According to rescue officials, two coaches derailed while three bogies, including a luggage van, overturned.

Rescue teams reached the spot and rescued the passengers trapped in the bogies and shifted them to the hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Lubna Nazir and the district officials also arrived at the scene.

According to railway authorities, train traffic on both the up and down tracks was not affected, and the Awam Express has also been sent back on its route after repairs and clearance.
